Special Interest
"Joint Replacement Surgery has proven to be one of the most successful surgical procedures"

Dr Botha has a special interest in Arthroplasty Surgery. He started with extensive research in patient outcome in 2009. He has over 3000 Knee Replacements and 1800 Hip Replacements on the database. It became evident that certain psycho-social aspects and negative personality characteristics can affect the recovery and rehabilitation process of patients.

He is the co-developer of the Bio-Psychosocial Arthroplasty Clinical Outcomes Pathway (BCOP), where the focus is on a holistic approach to ensure better patient outcome, experiences & patient satisfaction.

Certain patients react differently than we expect to surgery. Some patients have difficulty in managing their pain, and/or have poor range of motion and function following surgery. This is very often not just due to the surgical technique, but can be contributed to other factors such as, personality, pain experience emotions and social factors.
